Newspapers in Language Testing...! Is it Bound to Succeed?

Going by any indication, it seems that students are really receptive to any dynamic measure initiated by you as a lecturer.

I used the day's newspaper as a tool for the first C.As and had previously done the ground work for that much ahead in class. So most of the questions for their first internals was from the day's newspaper.

For instance, i had asked them to discuss the structure of any 'letter to the editor' from the day's newspaper. I also had asked them to sum up the main editorial which ran to around 8 long paragraphs in just about eight sentences, which was a real challenge for them.

But the real cream of the challenge was hacking the jumble right, to get the final clue right. Even though the test was bound to end by 1.30 pm, most of the students were seen deeply engrossed in their answer sheets till about 2.15 pm, which is a huge 45 minutes behind schedule.

To sum up, as long as the student is involved in the dynamics of the language classroom, heart and soul, things are bound to work your way, in the process helping the student achieve his ideals.
